Even though Google's Adsense program is enormously popular, there are some other pay-per-click systems that may also be of help to you. If you are already enrolled in Adsense, you may want to review the terms of service agreements for all of the programs, and make sure that your site will not be banned for participating in other programs. This is especially important if you want to take advantage of pay-per-click systems in niche markets.
Aside from text based pay-per-click programs, you may also want to look into ones that utilize banner ads. In many cases, you can join these networks for free. While they may not pay you for parking their banners, they will rotate your banner amongst pages created by other members.
If there are very popular sites in the group, chances are someone might visit yours as a result. In many ways, this is a clear advantage over Adsense. Consider that Google's platform includes millions of websites and pages. There is not a means available to ensure that your ads will be placed only on sites that have a significant amount of traffic. As a result, your ad may wind up on pages that are never visited.
Today, many people believe that Google has the ultimate platform when it comes to generating pay-per-click revenue. Unfortunately, success is entirely dependant on the ability to locate motivated viewers. If you find that you cannot generate much revenue with Google Adsense, you may want to try some programs that are more specific to your product, or even ones that determine where your ads go based on the number of people that view the site.
