That sure is a common question, and this article is meant to answer that question.
So, what does blogging mean?
Well, as far as definitions go, according to Wikipedia, blogging is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order.
The word 'blog' is the combination of the words web and log. A log is like a notebook of sorts where you record the events in your life.
So in essence, a weblog. A log on the web, an online log. Or an online diary or journal.
There's also niche blogs. A niche means that you target a certain audience. For example a niche blog could be a blog that is all about dogs or running or the latest electronic gadgets.
But to some, and me for example, blogging is so much more than just telling people what's going on in your life or in a certain area. For a lot of people, blogging is also a way to put food on the table and bring in revenue from the web.
In fact, most bloggers are actively trying to monetize their blogs, monetizing being the act of creating revenue, and blogging is a great way to combine both fun and money.
Some people actually make all of their income from their blogs, sometimes up in the five figures per month, which is very exciting for some, and for good reason, because it's also within everyone's reach.
John Yeo recently created a complete manual for how to start blogging and then exactly explaining the steps he took to get his one blog to earn him several thousand dollars per month.
He calls his book Blogger's Paycheck and it's available in an instant downloadable format.
