Most people love the idea of a nice private place in their yard. A lot of times, if you have a swimming pool, you want to be able to use your pool, lounge around in your swimsuit, and get a nice tan - and do it without the world watching! That is where some nice wood fencing can come in handy. Wood fencing is very rustic and natural looking and when you consider that many people are now concerned about the environment, the idea of putting up a fence made of a renewable resource is very attractive.

On the other hand, a simple split rail wood fence has the virtue of enclosing your yard, yet not completely blocking it off from the neighborhood. After all, one critical aspect of fencing is that if it is too thick and too high, those same virtues that give privacy to you also give privacy to any thief who slips in your yard.

So, consult with a fencing company or home improvement store as to which is the best type of wood fencing you should get. If you want to keep your children safe, then you will want a fence of a certain height. If you have a dog, and they are prone to jump, you will need a fence of yet another height. Now, some people worry about rot and decay settling in with wood fencing. After all, if you live in Austin, Houston, Dallas or somewhere with a southern climate, your area may be prone to heavy summer rains. Well, many types of wood fencing are now made of treated wood. As a result, they are protected from adverse weather conditions, and will last a long time.

Wood fencing also has the virtue of being easy to install. With a basic design, it goes something like this: first, you determine the best positions in which to place the main posts. These will be at the corners, and to support any gates you put in. Next, you arrange the intermediate posts to give good support to the walls. Depending on the size of your posts, you may be able to use a post hole digger, or you may need a shovel. Once the holes are ready, mix up come concrete, and place the posts, one by one. It is important that you let the concrete set for at least a day, and if possible, a week. After that, you nail the upper and lower supports between the posts, and then attach the individual fence planks.

One of the nice aspects of wood fencing is the flexibility they have in terms of their final appearance. You can leave them looking quite natural - just slap on a coat of wood finish or varnish, or paint them any color you want so that they match with the dcor you have selected for you home. And, if you change your color scheme in a few years, it is easy enough to re-paint your wood fencing as well. So, no matter what type of wood fencing you settle on, there are plenty of styles to choose from, and one that will fit with what you want to do with your home.
